Michael Fitzsimmons
Originally from upstate New York, I grew up in Louisiana and have since lived in San Diego, Phoenix, and Austin, TX. I received a BSEE and worked for 22 years in the electronics industry. I can't tell if I am retired or unemployed - I quit my job a few years ago to pursue my passion more seriously - fly-fishing the mountains of Colorado. Besides fly-fishing, my hobbies include cycling, golfing, and of course the world equity markets and economics.
Since Bush came into office I also seem to spend a bit more time analyzing politics and more specifically US policy (or, perhaps more accurately, the lack thereof). My grandfather was an independent oil producer in western NY and PN. My father worked for an energy services company, and I have grown up in the oil patch. I am a firm believer in the peak oil theory and that it will be the dominant investment theme until it is adequately addressed, i.e. the next few decades. I believe the realities of worldwide oil supply/demand are the biggest threat to the United States economy, our way of life, and indeed civilization as a whole. Peak oil, and not global warming, is the more immediate threat to the human race. although the solutions generally address both issues, the distinction is one of urgency.
